Clergy & Staff



Rev. Wilson Gonese became the minister of Bethany on Nov. 1, 2016.  He is originally from Africa where he was ordained to the ministry of the Word and Sacraments in 1995 after obtaining a Bachelor of Theology degree from the Theological College in Zambia. He served in many congregations over the next 12 years as well as serving as the Moderator of the Dutch Reformed Church in Botswana. In September 2007, he moved to NL where he served for the next five years in the Burgeo Pastoral Charge. In July 2013 he moved to the Springdale Pastoral Charge where he has served until November 2016.

Since moving to Newfoundland and Labrador he has obtained a Masters of Arts in Theology and Religious Studies from the Atlantic School of Theology.    As well, he is presently studying for a Doctorate of Ministry Degree in Rural Ministry and Development.

Rev Wilson has been involved extensively in numerous committees in the West District. He has also served on various committees at a national level and was a part of the national committee dedicated to the reorganization of the United Church of Canada.  He has been an excellent advocate for the United Church within each community that he has served.

Rev. Wilson is married and has two children.

Organist/ Choir Director

Leslie Forward, B.A. (Ed), Dipl. School Resources, Organist and Choir Director

Leslie has been an active member of Bethany for many years. She serves on the Worship and Sacrament Committee. She joined the staff in 2004 and has been very active with directing the choir and organizing special music services. Along with a great love of music and people, Leslie brings her experience as a retired teacher.


Wayne Parsons, Caretaker and Cemetery Care

Wayne is an active member in the Men’s Club and has been in the position of caretaker since 1997. Besides his normal duties of ensuring that the church is extremely well cleaned and prepared for worship services and the various groups that utilize our church building, he also operates the church sound system. Wayne is an integral member of our dedicated staff.
